H.R. No. 339


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A golden wedding anniversary is a momentous event in the lives of two people, and on June 18, 2005, John and Mary Lou Midkiff of Midland marked this special occasion; and WHEREAS, The couple celebrated their 50 years of marriage with a cruise and land tour of Alaska and a reception and dance hosted by their children and grandchildren at the Petroleum Club on July 9; and WHEREAS, United in matrimony on June 18, 1955, in Rankin, Mr. and Mrs. Midkiff have since shared an enduring union and have been blessed with three sons, Johnny, Greg, and Clay, and 12 grandchildren; and WHEREAS, The Midkiffs previously lived in Rankin, where they owned and operated Mary Lou's Drug Store until the early 1970s, when they moved to the family farm in Midland; through the years, they have been involved in farming, ranching, and the oil and gas business, and they are members of the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association as well as valued congregants of First Christian Church of Midland; and WHEREAS, A source of pride and inspiration for their family and friends for more than half a century, Mr. and Mrs. Midkiff have nurtured a strong bond of love and mutual respect, filling each other's lives with many happy times and cherished family memories; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate John and Mary Lou Midkiff on the joyous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Midkiff as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
