R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bessie L. Taylor of Wichita Falls celebrated her
105th birthday on June 30, 2005, marking a special milestone in her
long and happy life; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1900 in Gonzales to Monroe Lindsay and
Lillie Fields, Mrs. Taylor attended Hutto schools and left home in
1918 to begin a career in domestic service, which included a 19-year
tenure at the William and Mary Hotel and employment with several
prominent Wichita Falls families, as well as a 20-year career as a
telephone operator at Sheppard Air Force Base, from which she
retired; and
WHEREAS, This notable woman has been a valued member of
Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church since 1922, and it was there that she
met Ike Taylor, whom she married the following year; the loving pair
shared a marriage blessed with two children, Louis and Maymie Lois,
and "Mama Bessie," as she is affectionately called, has since
welcomed nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 18
great-great-grandchildren, and five
great-great-great-grandchildren into her family; and
WHEREAS, A gifted storyteller, Mrs. Taylor has much to share,
having lived through two World Wars, the Great Depression, and the
administrations of 19 presidents; through it all, this gracious
lady has brought joy and happiness to the countless people whose
lives she has touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Bessie
L. Taylor on her 105th birthday and extend to her heartfelt best
wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
