R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Sidney Albert Nicholson, Jr., of Kerrville were deeply saddened by his passing on July 28, 2004, at the age of 82; and WHEREAS, A native of Mason, where he was born on December 28, 1921, he was the youngest child of Alice Ritter Nicholson and Sidney A. Nicholson, Sr.; he graduated from Mason High School and served his country with distinction during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholson met Marjorie Ward during the war while he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, where she was working for the American Red Cross; the pair were married on December 24, 1944, at Sunset Baptist Church in Mountain Home, and together they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage; devoted to his loved ones, he delighted his listeners at family gatherings with humorous stories about his children and grandchildren; and WHEREAS, This successful businessman retired in 1997 from a notable 50-year career with T. J. Moore Lumber and Hardware; Mr. Nicholson began his tenure with the company in Ingram in its bookkeeping department, and after convincing the owners to add a furniture and appliance department, he managed that thriving part of the business, which relocated to Kerrville in 1975; and WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholson's heartfelt commitment to his community was evidenced by his service as president of the Hunt-Ingram Lions Club and his involvement with multiple fund-raisers benefiting the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville for children with physical disabilities, diabetes, and cancer; moreover, he shared his leadership in various capacities with both Hunt United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church as well as the board of Hilltop Village; and WHEREAS, Sidney Nicholson touched the lives of countless individuals during his years on this earth, and he will long be remembered with fondness and affection by those who were privileged to share in his friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sidney Albert Nicholson, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Marj Nicholson; to his daughters, Darla Nicholson and Mindy Nicholson Wendele; to his grandchildren, Meredith Wendele and Justin Travis; to his great-granddaughter, Morgan Nicole; to his sister, Estelle Cunningham; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sidney Albert Nicholson, Jr. Hilderbran ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
