H.R. No. 359



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Paula Vargas of Harlingen has significantly 
contributed to the betterment of the community she is proud to call 
home, and her professional and personal achievements and civic 
engagement are indeed commendable; and
	WHEREAS, This onetime migrant worker is now the owner of 
Busy-Like-Bees, a state-licensed child development center; she has 
given of her time and talents to a number of civic organizations, 
including the Get-Out-the-Vote campaign, the Keep Harlingen 
Beautiful Committee, Queens Peace Church, Catholic Daughters of 
America, and the City of Harlingen Municipal Court, which she has 
served as a volunteer for 15 years; and
	WHEREAS, Mrs. Vargas has also greatly benefited the Harlingen 
Kiwanis Club as a board member, and as a member of its education 
committee, she was highly instrumental in developing a scholarship 
program for local youth; moreover, she has served on the board of 
the Harlingen Community Development Center, worked closely with 
special-needs students in Harlingen ISD, volunteered with the 
Cameron County Mental Health and Retardation Center, and officiated 
as head coach and umpire for the American Little League Team; and
	WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, she has enjoyed the love and 
support of her husband of 40 years, Jose G. Vargas; a loving mother 
to eight children, five of them adopted, she has opened her heart 
and home to some 60 foster children over the years; and
	WHEREAS, Paula Vargas is an inspiration to all who are 
privileged to know her, and her efforts have made a positive 
difference in the lives of countless Texans; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize Paula Vargas for 
her many contributions to the Harlingen community and extend to her 
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for her as an expression of high regard by the Texas House 
of Representatives.
