H.R. No. 361


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, October 17, 2005, has been designated Wood County Retired School Personnel Association Day in recognition of the 25th anniversary of this noteworthy civic and professional organization, and members are celebrating this special occasion as part of a regular meeting at the Quitman Public Library; and WHEREAS, Organized in 1980 with Cleo William Browning as its first president, the Wood County Retired School Personnel Association (RSPA) remains an asset to the citizens of Wood County thanks to the myriad community services its members promote and support; and WHEREAS, In 2004 alone, members of the Wood County RSPA contributed nearly 21,000 hours of volunteer service in communities throughout the county; the association provides books for children as part of its affiliation with the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center and is active with the Texas Retired Teachers Association's "Walks-A-Million" Program for Health and the Linus Project, an initiative that provides blankets and quilts to seriously ill or traumatized children; and WHEREAS, Current officers of the association include president Carolyn Metcalf, first vice president Dorsay Ivy, second vice president Dr. Barbara H. Thompson, treasurer Jerry Cloud, and secretary Jo Ann Minshew; and WHEREAS, The silver anniversary meeting and reception will feature guest speaker Tim Lee, executive director of the Texas Retired Teachers Association; in addition, former presidents of the association will be honored for their role in shepherding the growth and development of the Wood County RSPA; and WHEREAS, For 25 years, the Wood County RSPA has helped meet the needs of its members while also making impressive, lasting contributions to the community, and it is a pleasure to honor this fine organization at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize the 25th anniversary of the Wood County Retired School Personnel Association and extend best wishes to its members for happiness and good fortune in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the officers and members of the Wood County Retired School Personnel Association as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
