R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Rafael Hernando III of El Paso is an outstanding Texan who has been recognized by the Socorro Independent School District with a school named for him; and WHEREAS, A decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Hernando served the U.S. Army as a Specialist with Company A, 5th Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment; his courage and determination in battle earned him a host of accolades, including the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, and Purple Heart, to name but a few; and WHEREAS, Over the years, he has been a vital leader in El Paso's veteran community, helping to organize the local Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Wheel Chair Sports Organization for Vietnam Veterans, serving as commander of AGIF of Greater El Paso, and assisting in the reactivation of the American G.I. Forum of Greater El Paso; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hernando has also given of his time and talents to the Socorro ISD, where he has worked as an after school program coordinator, and to his children's softball, t-ball, and baseball teams, which he has coached with great pride and enthusiasm; and WHEREAS, Rafael Hernando has made a positive difference in the lives of countless Texans, and it is indeed appropriate to take this opportunity to honor him for his long and accomplished record of service to others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Rafael Hernando III for his service to his country and community and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hernando as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
