R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, William "Bill" F. Callejo and Aldelfa B. Callejo of
Dallas have earned the Graciela Olivarez La Raza Award from the
National Council of La Raza; and
WHEREAS, Named in honor of Graciela Olivarez for her lifetime
commitment to Hispanic women's rights, this prestigious accolade
recognizes individuals or organizations that have made significant
contributions in promoting the interests of Hispanic Americans; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Callejo are truly deserving recipients
of this honor; married for more than half a century, the couple
opened a mutual law practice in 1966; and
WHEREAS, Since that time, Mrs. Callejo has dedicated her
professional life to representing Mexican Americans, Mexican
nationals, and all Hispanics in areas of education, criminal
justice, housing, health, immigration, equal employment
opportunity, and civil rights; her remarkable efforts would not
have been possible without the unyielding support of her beloved
husband; and
WHEREAS, Recipients of the Graciela Olivarez La Raza Award
must have done work that is national in scope and relevant to
contemporary Hispanic America, and Bill and Aldelfa Callejo are
most deserving of this important recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate William "Bill" F. Callejo and
Aldelfa B. Callejo on earning the Graciela Olivarez La Raza Award
from the National Council of La Raza and commend them for their many
contributions to the Hispanic American community; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Callejo as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
