R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lauren Chandler Lanning of Houston was named Miss Texas USA on June 26, 2005, and she will undoubtedly represent her fellow citizens with dignity and grace in the Miss USA pageant in February 2006; and WHEREAS, Selected from a group of 131 lovely and talented contestants, Ms. Lanning was crowned Miss Texas USA on the basis of interview, swimsuit, and evening gown competition; committed to giving back to her community, she is the founder of Coins for the Cure, a program dedicated to raising awareness and finding a cure for breast cancer, and also lends her time to Shriners Hospital for Children, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston, and the Friendship Heaven Nursing Home; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lanning is currently a student at San Jacinto College, where she is majoring in radio/television communications; she aspires to one day become an actress or television journalist; her younger sister, Taylor Lanning, who is currently serving as Miss Houston Teen USA, was named second runner-up in the 2005 Miss Texas Teen USA; and WHEREAS, Lauren Lanning serves as an outstanding goodwill ambassador for the Lone Star State, and she may look forward to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Lauren Chandler Lanning on being named Miss Texas USA 2006 and extend to her sincere best wishes for a successful reign; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Lanning as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
