H.R. No. 430
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Vidal "Vic" Torres celebrated an important
milestone on July 11, 2005, when he commemorated the 50th
anniversary of the beginning of his radio career at KVLF in Alpine;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Torres first hosted The Spanish Hour on July 11,
1955, at the age of 19; in the 50 years since that noteworthy day, he
has established himself as a fixture at the station, introducing
new music to his loyal following, while also mentoring and training
many of the station's personnel, including current owner and
general manager Ray Hendryx; and
WHEREAS, Although Mr. Torres has not been the exclusive host
of his signature program during its long and successful run, he is
credited with setting the standard for this unique and popular
show; his skills as a multilingual broadcaster are evidenced by his
ability to translate an English script into Spanish on the air,
without the benefit of rehearsal, and his knowledge of regional
music is unparalleled; and
WHEREAS, Vic Torres is an important part of the history of
Alpine, and his musical tastes have had a profound effect on
generations of listeners; his passion for music, as well as the
influence of his dedicated fan base, have kept him behind the
microphone for five decades, and people throughout the Alpine area
have greatly benefited from his notable contributions; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Vidal "Vic" Torres
on the 50th anniversary of his association with radio station KVLF
and extend best wishes to him for continued success and happiness;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Torres as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
