R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Reverend Danny Davis and the members of Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church (MBC) in Houston are celebrating the 126th anniversary of their church on July 24, 2005; and WHEREAS, The congregation traces its roots to 1879, when the Reverend W. W. Navigan organized the charter members, who initially met in a two-room house at St. Charles and Pearce until a larger building could be constructed; today, the church home is located at 2603 Anita Street in the city's historic Third Ward; and WHEREAS, In 1993, when he stepped into the pulpit at Jordan Grove, Reverend Davis became only the eighth pastor since the church's founding; among his many accomplishments are the establishment of a church nursery and a 7:45 a.m. Sunday service as well as a number of renovation projects; and WHEREAS, Jordan Grove MBC has been a blessing in the lives of generations of Texans, and it is most appropriate to join its members in honoring the church on this special occasion in its rich history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Reverend Danny Davis and the members of Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church on the 126th anniversary of the church's founding and extend to them sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable observance; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
