H.R. No. 435
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, John Henry "Johnny" Williams, Jr., and Joan Gayle
"Joanie" Moore will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary
on August 26, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Williams were married on August 26,
1955, in Dallas, Texas, at the Craig Chapel of the Gaston Avenue
Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, They are both graduates of Woodrow Wilson High
School and have resided in the Dallas area all of their lives,
mostly in Lake Highlands; and
WHEREAS, They have three wonderful children: a daughter,
Kim, her husband, Mike, and their children Hallie, Justin, Abbie,
and Wade; a daughter, Kelly, her husband, Ken, and their daughter,
Nicole; and a son, Kirk, his wife, Cindy, and their children,
Mackenzie and Meyer; and
WHEREAS, Joanie worked at the Greenville Avenue Bank before
her marriage to Johnny and then became a proud homemaker and mother
often known to say that she had "the most important jobs any person
will ever have"; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams volunteered for numerous worthwhile
organizations in Dallas, including the Dallas Women's Forum, the
Dallas Garden Club, the Beta Sigma Phi Service Organization, and
the Children's Medical Center in Dallas, where she has volunteered
for more than 40 years, and she has served the center as one of the
founders, an advisory board member, and its first president; and
WHEREAS, She is a talented seamstress, an exceptional cook, a
gifted gardener, and a legendary hostess; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Williams, along with his father, owned the Chris
Craft boat dealership in Dallas on White Rock Lake and later moved
his Johnny Williams Marine dealership to Garland Road, where he
remained in business for many years; and
WHEREAS, Johnny retired as a professional in the mid-1970s
and then managed as well as owned commercial and residential
property, including a marina on Lake Ray Hubbard formerly known as
Pier 67 and now known as Captain's Cove; and
WHEREAS, He was a founding member of the Dallas Boat Show and
is a current member of the Dallas Wooden Boat Club; and
WHEREAS, This gentleman, through his generosity and reasoned
advice, has helped countless people both young and old alike; and
WHEREAS, This great couple has loved the lakes of North Texas
where Johnny grew up on White Rock Lake and where his parents owned
and operated the Bonnie Barge, a historic landmark on White Rock
Lake from 1946 to 1956; and
WHEREAS, Johnny and Joanie had their first date at White Rock
Lake in January 1952, and they spent many summers on both Lake Ray
Hubbard and Lake Texoma with their children and grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, This beloved couple are members of the Children's
Medical Center Circle of Care, which recognizes and honors them for
their generous and ongoing support of this splendid organization so
close to their hearts; and
WHEREAS, They are members of the Fellowship Bible Church of
Dallas where they are well known for the love and support they have
freely given to friends and family over these many years, and they
have opened their home to both old and new acquaintances, ailing
relatives, their children's friends, and an occasional
stranger--leaving their boundless love for one another as a lasting
impression on all whose lives they have touched; and
WHEREAS, They will be celebrating their 50th wedding
anniversary with family and friends on Friday, August 26, 2005, in
the Rosine Hall at the Dallas Arboretum, and a Texas flag will be
officially flown over the State Capitol in Austin on that date in
their honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature extend heartiest congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
Williams on the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Williams as well as for each of their
children and grandchildren as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
