R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Captain Billy G. Holder of the Irving Fire Department is celebrating half a century of exceptional public service in 2005, and this notable milestone provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on his outstanding career; and WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Shakey", he joined the department on December 1, 1955, and throughout his admirable tenure, he has worked at the city's busiest stations; for the past 30 years, he has held two assignments, as a crew member of Fire Station Two and as captain of Fire Station One, his current post; and WHEREAS, Further testament to his dedication and proficiency is his status as the lead man for his shift's swift water rescue team, a specialty assignment requiring top-notch physical conditioning that is a formidable challenge for younger firefighters; and WHEREAS, A trusted leader, advisor, and role model for his fellow firefighters, Shakey Holder has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his colleagues, his profession, and to the safety of his fellow citizens that has earned him the lasting respect and admiration of all who know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Captain Billy G. Holder on his 50th anniversary with the Irving Fire Department and pay tribute to this remarkable Texan by recognizing December 1, 2005, as Shakey Holder Day in Irving; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Captain Holder as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
