SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 14
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to welcome the Connectional Lay Organization of the African Methodist Episcopal Church on the grand occasion of the organization's 29th Biennual Session; and WHEREAS, The lay organization has chosen the City of Houston as the host of its 29th Biennial Session, which is taking place July 24 through 29, 2005; and WHEREAS, The African Methodist Episcopal Church was formed in 1787 after black communicants were forcibly segregated from the rest of the congregation; and WHEREAS, The denomination has grown to include over two million members worldwide; its churches foster community pride, enhance the lives of its members through education, and work to improve the quality of life for others; and WHEREAS, The Connectional Lay Organization of the African Methodist Episcopal Church will hold a welcome reception on July 25 during the biennial session; this venerable organization supports the church's enduring commitment to its holy mission; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to the Connectional Lay Organization of the African Methodist Episcopal Church on the occasion of it 29th Biennial Session; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
