SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Marlene and Leon Zipperer of Del Valle, who recently
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Leon Russell Zipperer was born and raised in
Florida, and Nelda Marlene Harmon was born in Kingsland and
raised in Austin; Leon was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base
with the United States Air Force when the couple met on
March 17, 1955, at a place in Austin called Round Up Drive-In; and
WHEREAS, Leon and Marlene were married a few months later
on June 17, and they went to Florida on their honeymoon three
months later; Leon was transferred to England, and Marlene stayed
in Austin until Leon returned two years later; the couple then
lived in Guam, Kansas, and South Carolina before returning to
Austin; Leon later retired from the military; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Zipperer have been blessed with a
wonderful family; their children, Leona Marlene and Louise Marie,
and their six grandchildren and great-grandchild are a source of
much pride and joy; and
WHEREAS, The love between Leon and Marlene has grown
stronger each year as together they have experienced the joys and
sorrows of everyday living; Leon has become an avid gardener, and
Marlene is a wonderful cook and enjoys trying new recipes; the long
and happy union of this devoted couple is truly an inspiration to
all who know them; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend congratulations
to Mr. and Mrs. Leon Zipperer on their 50th wedding anniversary and
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this distinguished couple as a memento of this special day in
their lives.
