SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to Mary Ruth McAngus Jackson on the grand occasion of her
90th birthday; and
WHEREAS, This gracious lady is well known for her charm and
generosity of spirit, and she is a revered resident of Austin; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ruth was born July 3, 1915, in Austin, and
she and her family lived above their livelihood, a grocery store
they owned that was located on the corner of 7th and Trinity
Streets; she graduated from The University of Texas in 1936 and
began working for the university; and
WHEREAS, She married Laurence Jackson in 1938; the couple
were blessed with three children; her indomitable spirit
sustained her family when Laurence died and left her with two
teenaged children and a five-year-old to raise; Mary Ruth put
aside her own needs to nurture her children, making sure that
they all graduated from college; and
WHEREAS, After her children were raised, she worked as head
of volunteer services at Austin State School; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mary Ruth demonstrates her
faith in her daily life; she is a longstanding member of
University Avenue Church of Christ, where she has helped cook and
serve meals for the homeless since her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest
enriches everyone who knows Mary Ruth, and her 90th birthday is
surely an appropriate occasion to celebrate her full life; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize
Mary Ruth McAngus Jackson as a treasured citizen of Austin and
the State of Texas; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as a memento of this special day.
