SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 28
In Memory
of
William J. Reddell
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of San Antonio in mourning the loss of William J. Reddell, who died
June 18, 2005, at the age of 89; and
WHEREAS, Bill was born October 24, 1915, in Rule, Texas; he
graduated from Tulia High School and majored in journalism at
Baylor University, where he was editor of its newspaper and its
yearbook; and
WHEREAS, He began his notable journalism career as a cub
reporter for the predecessor of the San Antonio Express-News; he
continued his tenure at the newspaper, reporting, editing, and
writing reviews and a column called the "Bill Board," and he was
the editor for the editorial page for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, After retiring from the newspaper in 1980, Bill
joined Valero Energy's community relations department, where he
worked for seven years; and
WHEREAS, He demonstrated the importance of his religious
beliefs in how he lived his life; he was a lifetime deacon at
San Antonio First Baptist Church, and he sang in the choir for 50
years; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, he was respected in the
community for his many accomplishments; he served on the boards
of San Antonio First Baptist Church, Baptist Health System, and
Baylor University; and
WHEREAS, He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness,
and vitality; he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of William J. Reddell: his wife
of 55 years, Cynthia Reddell; and his daughters, Jean Berggren,
Judy Nolen, and Molly Hornbuckle; his sister, Rebecca Evans; and
his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of William J. Reddell.
