SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 30
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to Joe Bagby on the special occasion of his 67th birthday
on June 30, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Known as a country boy from Big Sandy, Texas,
Joe Bagby had a childhood dream of becoming a pilot; however, it
was a career in broadcast journalism that finally captured his
heart; and
WHEREAS, Joe got his start in radio through his membership
in the Cedar Crest Church of Christ in Dallas, where his mother
made certain that he was active; through his work with the
church's radio ministry, Joe met an early pioneer of gospel music
radio, Jimmy Avant, who soon became his mentor and schooled him
in the art; and
WHEREAS, The gospel announcer's torch was passed to Joe
40 years ago, and since then, he has continued to help gospel
music radio grow; he has been involved with gospel broadcast on
KHVN from the days when gospel music was broadcast only a few
hours a day to the present day when gospel music is played around
the clock; he has worked with many well-known gospel announcers
and has extended a helping hand to many local artists,
ministries, and churches; and
WHEREAS, When "Heaven 97" KHVN radio station became all
gospel 24 hours a day, Joe became the morning drive host; he opens
and closes his morning show with his trademark prayer and is
affectionately known as "Bro" Joe; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his work in gospel music radio, Joe
has been a schoolteacher, a business owner, and a constable for
Precinct 8; he is renowned across the Dallas/Fort Worth area for
his compassion for those in need and for his dedication to
serving his community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize Joe Bagby
as a treasured citizen of our state and extend to him best wishes
on his 67th birthday; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as a memento of this special day.
