SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 40
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Rollyn Carlson, who in August of 2004 joined the ranks
of the great citizenry of El Paso; a force to be reckoned with,
Rollyn immediately began to work her magic by inspiring all those
around her to stand tall for their principles and beliefs; and
WHEREAS, Rollyn's enormous heart, untiring spirit, and
determination have left a mark on many El Pasoans, herein
demonstrated by the words of just some of those whom she
inspired:
Rollyn's e-mails all end with a phrase or
quote; one in particular from Sojourner Truth
stated, "A small bunch of fleas biting strategically
can make a big dog lie down." Rollyn is all about
organizing the fleas!
Susannah Byrd, District Two
City Representative
"Those who profess to favor freedom and yet
depreciate agitation are people who want crops
without ploughing the ground; they want rain without
thunder and lightning; they want the ocean without
the roar of its many waters. The struggle may be a
moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be
both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes
nothing without a demand; it never has and it never
will." Frederick Douglass.--Rollyn, thank you for
inspiring and sharing wisdom; your leadership
illuminates and encourages the work needed to make
our world a better place. It is a privilege to have
toiled together in our endeavor.
Leon Kababie
Rollyn Carlson supports the Democratic Party
and its principles and beliefs. Her active
participation and dedication will be greatly
missed.
Carmen Duarte, El Paso County
Democratic Party Chair
I know that we will all miss her immense
dedication, strength, ethics, caring, and concern
for El Pasoans and the environment. For my part, I
will sorely miss her wonderful energy, her clarity
of purpose, her sense of humor, her extensive
experience, her exceptional dedication to our
cause, and her consistent willingness to take on
essential jobs that no one else wanted to do! Dear
Rollyn--you will be missed!
Yvette Ammerman
; and
WHEREAS, Rollyn's attitude, dedication, passion for
issues, compassion for people, and "you know what you need to do"
straight-up style are ideals now entrenched in the values of
those whose lives she has touched; and
WHEREAS, Rollyn is a special person and friend who made a
huge difference in El Paso, and she leaves in the community a new
hope for a better future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend best wishes
to Rollyn Carlson as she continues to deliver hope and vigor to
people in her new community; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
