SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 46
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Northside Independent School District in San Antonio
for being named the Texas Excellence in Education Award winner by
the H-E-B Grocery Company; and
WHEREAS, Created to recognize the contributions of
outstanding school teachers and principals, the H-E-B Excellence
in Education awards were expanded this year to include a school
district for the first time; Northside Independent School
District was the first school district to be chosen for this
honor and was awarded $100,000 during a ceremony on June 16, 2005;
and
WHEREAS, Northside Independent School District was chosen
for this prestigious honor because of its superior caliber in
student achievement, professional development and leadership
programs, community support, efficient systemic and
infrastructure designs, and parental, community, and business
engagement; and
WHEREAS, A school district depends on the talent,
dedication, and enthusiasm of its faculty and staff, and
Northside Independent School District is blessed with some of the
finest teachers and administrators in the state; and
WHEREAS, Linda Garcia, principal of Connally Middle School,
was named the state's top middle school principal, and two
district teachers were named as state finalists, Kristina Diaz of
Rhodes Elementary School in the Rising Star category and
Dorothy Hall of O'Connor High School in the Secondary Lifetime
Achievement category; and
WHEREAS, With a projected enrollment of over 76,000
students for the 2005-2006 school year, the Northside
Independent School District is a premier school system where
growth engenders excellence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the
Northside Independent School District for being selected for the
H-E-B Texas Excellence in Education Award and extend its warmest
congratulations to the individual honorees in the district; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
