SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 52
In Memory
of
Rable Johnson
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Rable Johnson, who
died June 16, 2005, at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, Rable was born April 20, 1920, in Waxahachie, to
Willie and Mandie Johnson and he attended public schools in Ike,
Ennis, and Dallas; he was a longtime member of the Golden Gate
Baptist Church, and he was appointed cochair of the deacons at
the organization of the Greater Golden Gate Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, A pioneer in the African American business
community in Dallas, Rable was the first African American manager
of a James K. Wilson clothing store as well as one of the first
African Americans to procure a Jack in the Box, Incorporated,
franchise; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Rable received numerous
honors throughout his life, including a 2003 Steeple Award for
recognition of church service; and
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, Rable
gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he
leaves behind countless memories that will be cherished forever
by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Rable Johnson: his beloved
wife of 64 years, Earnestine; his sons and daughter-in-law,
Ricky Johnson, Rodney Johnson, and Phillip and Barbara Johnson;
his daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Donald Wrightsil; his
stepsister, Yvonne Sands; and his seven grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Rable Johnson.
