SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 67
In Memory
of
Bruce Wayne Marshall
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Bruce Wayne Marshall,
who died June 23, 2005, at the age of 51; and
WHEREAS, Born December 12, 1953, to E.O. and Norma Marshall,
Bruce graduated from Ray High School with honors in 1972 as a
four-sport letterman; and
WHEREAS, Bruce earned a bachelor's degree in physical
education and health from The University of Texas at Arlington,
where he was an Academic All-American pitcher and still holds
several pitching records; he went on to earn a master's degree
from Baylor University and a midmanagement degree from
Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, In 1979, Bruce began his high school coaching
career at King High School, where he served as head baseball
coach; during a 24-year career, he coached at various schools
before returning to Corpus Christi to coach at Ray and Carroll
High Schools; he coached football, baseball, and wrestling, and
many of his baseball players received college scholarships; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding coach earned the respect of his
colleagues and that of his students, who remember his dedication
to his work and the sense of fair play, teamwork, and discipline
he instilled in them; he retired from his position as a coach in
May of this year; and
WHEREAS, A passionate scuba diver, Bruce often traveled
to South America and the Caribbean Sea to dive, and he certified
many local divers as a Professional Association of Diving
Instructors master instructor; and
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and admirable
leadership, he gave generously of himself to others, and his
wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by
those who knew him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Bruce Wayne Marshall: his
mother, Norma Lorene Marshall; his sister, Brenda Marshall; and
his aunt, uncles, and cousins; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Bruce Marshall.
