SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 70
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Deane Armstrong, who will be honored by the Austin
Central Labor Council at its Labor Day celebration for her
contributions to the labor movement in Texas; and
WHEREAS, Deane has been a dedicated union activist in
Central Texas since entering the labor movement some 45 years
ago; after joining Communications Workers of America Local 6132,
she assumed a succession of local offices, including chief
steward of accounting and vice president of accounting and
commercial; and
WHEREAS, Deane served as secretary-treasurer of the Texas
Legislative and Political Caucus and as a vice president of the
American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial
Organizations in Texas; and
WHEREAS, Deane Armstrong has assisted and trained many
young women and men for leadership positions in organized labor
and has been a mentor to many organizers and activists; and
WHEREAS, She has led by example, serving two terms as mayor
of Jonestown; even after retirement, she remains active within
the labor movement of Texas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend
Deane Armstrong for her work on behalf of the labor movement and
extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
