SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 71

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Dr. C.B.T. Smith for his decades of service to the 
Christian communities of Dallas; and
	WHEREAS, Certain pastors become role models for their 
colleagues and successors through their passion, their strength, 
and their dedication to sharing their faith, and
Clarence Booker Taliaferro Smith is such a minister; in recognition
of his stature and accomplishments, the E.K. Bailey Ministries' 
Expository Preaching Conference is honoring him with its Living 
Legend award; and
	WHEREAS, For nearly 70 years, Dr. Smith has ministered 
faithfully to the spiritual needs of innumerable people, and he 
has provided enlightenment, hope, and support to the Dallas 
community; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Smith was formerly a pastor at Golden Gate 
Missionary Baptist Church in Oak Cliff, where he served for
45 years before retiring at the age of 81; now at the age of 89,
he continues to commit to regular preaching engagements around 
Dallas and across the country; and
	WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian, Dr. Smith 
continues to grow and learn, serving as an inspiration to others 
and remaining an active, strong, and vibrant preacher at nearly 
90 years of age; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend
Dr. C.B.T. Smith for his many years of service to the Dallas 
community and congratulate him on receiving the E.K. Bailey 
Ministries' Expository Preaching Conference's Living Legend 
award; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
