SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 74
WHEREAS, Many years ago, John Daniel Jackson, Sr., and Maggie Lee James made a lifetime commitment to each other, and their mutual trust has been amply rewarded, for they recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on April 15, 2005; and WHEREAS, After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, John worked for the United States Postal Service for 39 years; a professional seamstress all her life, Maggie retired from Houston Community College after 26 years of teaching upholstery and drapery making; and WHEREAS, The world has changed considerably during the years of their marriage, yet Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have cherished traditional family values; they have been members of Mount Moriah Baptist Church since 1952; and WHEREAS, Over the years, they have grown stronger in their love and devotion as together they have experienced the joys and sorrows of everyday living; and WHEREAS, John and Maggie have been blessed with a wonderful family, and they are beloved and respected by their children, John Daniel Jackson, Jr., Priscilla Ann, Loy Denise, and Kelvin Dwayne, their 11 grandchildren, and their five great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, The loving relationship that Maggie and John share is truly an inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jackson on their 57th wedding anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
