SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 88
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Sunny Letot for her commitment to preserving and protecting historical sites in the Dallas area; and WHEREAS, Sunny is a descendant of a pioneering North Texas family; her grandfather, Clement Letot, established the town of Letot, and his homestead site in what is now Northwest Dallas contains one of the oldest integrated, nonslave cemeteries in North Texas, now known as Calvary Hill Cemetery; and WHEREAS, In addition to the cemetery, the Letot homestead site contains numerous buried archaeological artifacts and structures that offer a unique perspective on local history and race relations from the late 19th century; and WHEREAS, Clement Letot had a lifelong commitment to service on behalf of his family and friends and was dedicated to maintaining the cemetery, in which many of them were buried; and WHEREAS, Continuing to honor her family's commitment to public service, Sunny has taken on a variety of roles for the Dallas community, working tirelessly for many years to safeguard numerous historical assets, including the Letot Homestead site and its cemetery; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Sunny Letot for her many contributions to the City of Dallas and to our state; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
