SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 94
In Memory
of
Christopher Reed Kilpatrick
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Columbus in mourning the loss of Private First Class
Christopher Reed Kilpatrick of the United States Army, who died
June 20, 2005, at the age of 18; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Kilpatrick was born in Houston on
June 28, 1986; he grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus
High School on May 28, 2004; and
WHEREAS, He signed up for the Army during his
senior year and began his basic training on August 18, 2004, at
Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; he died while courageously serving
his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom; Christopher was assigned
to the 603rd Transportation Company, 142nd Corps Support
Battalion, Warrior Brigade, Fort Polk, Louisiana, as an 88M10
vehicle operator; he was deployed to Iraq on February 20, 2005; and
WHEREAS, While serving active duty, Christopher earned the
National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service
Ribbon; he was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, the
Purple Heart, and the Army Commendation Medal; and
WHEREAS, In his hometown where no one is a stranger,
Christopher stood out as an example for others to follow; never
content to sit on the sidelines, Christopher was always an active
participant in life; he played on the Columbus Cardinal high
school basketball team, qualified for the academic all-district
team, and was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes
and the Future Farmers of America; he had also earned the rank of
Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, A young man of courage, strength, and compassion,
Christopher gave generously of himself to others, and his warmth
and spirited nature will not be forgotten by those who knew him;
Christopher lived his life to the fullest, and he leaves behind
memories that will be cherished forever by his family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Christopher Reed Kilpatrick:
his father, Scott Kilpatrick, and his wife, Melissa; his mother,
Tracy Hanak, and her husband, Zachary; his sisters, Jaclyn and
Morgan Kilpatrick; his stepsisters, Rebecca Boulware and
Elizabeth Boulware; his grandparents, Bill and June Kilpatrick
and Jack Soape and Scarlette Soape; and his great-grandmother,
Betty Baker; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Christopher Kilpatrick.
