SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 96
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Alma Florence Yvette Rollerson-Twitty, a beloved resident of Paris, Texas, who will be celebrating her 84th birthday October 26, 2005; and WHEREAS, Alma Florence Yvette Rollerson was born in 1921 in Medill, Texas, now known as Novice; she graduated salutatorian of her class at Gibbons High School in Paris; she then earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from Prairie View A&M University and attended graduate school at Texas A&M University; she served as a teacher in the Lamar County School District for 37 years; and WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Alma has been a loyal member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Paris for over 60 years; she has served as a Sunday school teacher and has been a supporter of Christian ministries at home and abroad; and WHEREAS, She was married to the late Homer Twitty, and she has been blessed with three daughters and seven grandchildren; she has been a dedicated leader in her community and a member of a number of organizations, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; her many talents include writing inspirational poems and skits; and WHEREAS, Alma Rollerson-Twitty is a cherished citizen of the City of Paris and our state, and she deserves recognition for her years of hard work and her many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Alma Florence Yvette Rollerson-Twitty for her many contributions to her community and extend to her best wishes on the occasion of her 84th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate.
