SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 97
In Memory
of
Lamar Tinsley
WHEREAS, Residents of Huntington lost a greatly admired citizen and trusted friend with the death of the town's mayor, the Honorable Lamar Tinsley, on July 10, 2005, at the age of 73; and WHEREAS, Born on February 23, 1932, Mayor Tinsley was a lifelong resident of the Ewing and Huntington areas; after graduating from Huntington High School in 1951, he distinguished himself as a model employee of Texas Foundry, now known as Citation Texas Foundries, eventually becoming the steel foundry's supervisor and, later, an employee counselor; in 2002, he was honored by the American Foundry Service for more than 50 years of service to the industry, and the following year he received the prestigious Angelina Award; and WHEREAS, He was elected mayor of Huntington in 1996, and during his tenure, the city benefited from substantial upgrades to its infrastructure and numerous other improvements; his commitment to the community also extended to various organizations, including the Lions Club, the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of East Texas advisory board, which he served as chair, and Goodwill Industries of Central East Texas, which he served as president; and WHEREAS, This notable Texan will be missed by all those who witnessed his deep commitment to his family, friends, and the City of Huntington, and he leaves behind a legacy of achievement that will long benefit his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Mayor Lamar Tinsley and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 55 years, Clauda; his daughters, Alisanne Nerren and Meredith Brant and her husband, Jeff; his sons, David Tinsley and his wife, Sue, and Jack Tinsley and his wife, Wendy; his son-in-law, David Skidmore; his granddaughters, Ashley Blake and her husband, Cody, Alicia Howatt and her husband, Shane, Lori Day and her husband, Lane, Jacqueline Hutto, Victoria Hutto, Jessica Tinsley, Lauren Tinsley, Elizabeth Nerren, and Grace Tinsley; his grandsons, Brian Johnson and Ashlee, Bailey, and Creed Skidmore; his eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Carver Tinsley and his wife, Janice; his sister-in-law, Anne Miller; his brothers-in-law, Norris Roberts and his wife, Ouida, and Bob Roberts and his wife, Ruby; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the Honorable Lamar Tinsley.
