SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 102
In Memory
of
Gladys Josey Cummings
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Houston in mourning the loss of Gladys Josey Cummings, who
passed away recently; and
WHEREAS, Gladys was dedicated to her family and was
respected in the community for her many accomplishments;
a devout Christian, she was a member of the Fifth Ward Missionary
Baptist Church; she was preceded in death by her husband,
Claude Cummings, Sr.; and
WHEREAS, A woman of compassion, strength, and deep faith,
Gladys gave generously of herself to others, and her wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew her; and
WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Gladys
leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by her
family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Gladys Josey Cummings:
her sons and daughters-in-law, Claude Cummings, Jr.,
Rorary Darrell Cummings, and Keith Tracy Cummings, and Ruth,
Charles, and Edith; her nine grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Mrs. Julie Simpson and
Mrs. Elece Josey Sauls; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Gladys Cummings.
