SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 127
In Memory
of
Charles Edward Crawford
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Austin in mourning the loss of Charles Edward Crawford, who
died June 19, 2005, at the age of 77; and
WHEREAS, Charles Crawford was born in Austin to
Charles Mills and Betty Crawford on July 27, 1927; he graduated
from Auburn University, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha
Epsilon Fraternity; Charlie served in the United States Army in
1946 and 1947 and in the Merchant Marine in 1948; and
WHEREAS, Charlie began his career as a computer salesman
for IBM Corporation and remained in the computer field of
business throughout his early life; he later served for many
years with the Texas State Senate, where he was known for his
skill as an editor in the Legal Division of the Engrossing and
Enrolling Department; and
WHEREAS, Charlie was a gentleman of high standards who
cherished language and literature; he was noted for his engaging
sense of humor and his intelligent, dry wit, and his succinct
speech and manner of delivery were a source of much enjoyment to
all who knew him; and
WHEREAS, When faced with his debilitating illness, Charlie
persevered with remarkable courage and continued to share his
wisdom and humor--and inevitably his many points of view!--with
those he cherished; and
WHEREAS, Beloved for his inimitable personality and his
warmth and spirit, Charlie Crawford lived his life to the fullest
and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves
behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Charles Edward Crawford:
his wife, Pat; his son and daughter-in-law,
Charles J. G. Crawford and Rebekah; his stepchildren,
Ray and Lynn Hopkins; his brother and sister-in-law,
George Mills Crawford and Aurea; and his grandchildren, Elspeth,
Bryn, Charles Ian, Fiona, and James; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Charles Edward Crawford.
