SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 132

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize the Kendall County Fair in Boerne on the occasion of 
its 100th anniversary, which is being celebrated on Labor Day 
weekend; and
	WHEREAS, Kendall County held its first fair in 1905 in the 
Boerne Opera House; the early successes of the fair encouraged 
organizers to form the Kendall County Fair Association in 1913
to enlarge and further promote the fair; and
	WHEREAS, With a donation of 56 acres from the heirs of 
Ferdinand Ludwig Von Herff, the organizers created Herff Park, 
now home to the annual Kendall County Fair and Rodeo and the 
Kendall County Fair Association; and
	WHEREAS, The fair begins on the Thursday evening before 
Labor Day weekend when the Kendall County Fair and Rodeo queen 
and her court are selected; the court includes a princess, a 
duchess, a little miss, as well as the queen; these girls receive 
educational scholarships and serve as representatives for the 
fair and the county throughout the year; and
	WHEREAS, Every year on Saturday, a parade marches down
Main Street with colorful floats, horse-mounted drill teams, and 
marching bands; the exhibit hall displays arts and crafts, 
antiques, and agricultural products and at the rodeo participants
can watch mutton busting and miniature bull riding; a fireworks 
show will celebrate the fair's 100th anniversary; and
	WHEREAS, The fair encourages farming and ranching in the 
community and funds scholarships for area youths, and it is 
indeed worthy of legislative recognition on the occasion of its 
centennial celebration; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the 
residents of Kendall County and the members of the Kendall County 
Fair Association on the occasion of the 2005 Centennial
Kendall County Fair and extend to all best wishes for a joyful 
celebration; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 
expression of high regard of the Texas Senate.
