SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 141
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Saint Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on the 
occasion of its 110th Parish Anniversary; and
	WHEREAS, Saint Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 
has its roots in the work of several priests that began in 1892 
when Reverend Charles Kacer would travel to Caldwell to celebrate 
the Mass in various locations, from private homes to empty stores 
to the Caldwell Opera House; and
	WHEREAS, In 1895, a small wooden church was built through 
the generosity of parish members, and the first Mass in the new 
church was offered on August 1 of that year; in the Galveston 
Storm of 1900, the church and its contents were demolished, 
except for a beautiful painting of Our Lady of Lourdes; the 
painting was placed upon the altar of the next church; it was 
renovated and placed in the present church when the church was 
built in 1984; and
	WHEREAS, Over the years, Saint Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes 
Catholic Church has ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs 
of innumerable people; and
	WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its 
former pastors and to the outstanding leadership of its current 
pastor, Father Dimitrij Colankin, the church has continued to 
grow and play a vital role in the life of the community; and
	WHEREAS, Saint Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 
has become an invaluable source of strength for church members 
during their hardships and in times of bereavement and is a place


of celebration for them during times of abundance; now, 
therefore, be it  
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend best wishes 
to the clergy and members of Saint Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes 
Catholic Church on the joyous occasion of its 110th Parish 
Anniversary; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
