SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 142

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in 
recognizing Dr. H. B. Bell on the occasion of his retirement as 
associate superintendent with the Dallas Independent School 
District after more than 40 years of exemplary service as an 
educator and administrator; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Bell began his career with the Dallas 
Independent School District in 1963 as a high school English 
teacher and over the years held a number of responsible 
positions, including assistant principal, educational planner, 
director of the Teacher Education Center, and deputy associate 
superintendent; and
	WHEREAS, He served as an assistant superintendent, as a 
division executive for professional development, and as the 
executive principal of the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center; he 
was special assistant to the general superintendent before 
beginning his present position in 2000 as associate 
superintendent for alternative programs; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Bell earned a bachelor's degree in English and 
biology and a master's degree in educational administration and 
supervision from Prairie View A&M University and a doctorate in 
education from East Texas State University in Commerce; he has 
been honored over the years for his educational endeavors; and
	WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Bell has demonstrated 
an exceptional commitment to education, and his presence in the 
Dallas Independent School District will be greatly missed; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. H. B. Bell
for his outstanding contributions in the field of education in 
the community and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, 
be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
