H.C.R. No. 12 





HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel A. Bentley Nettles of College Station, who has served his country with distinction in Iraq and Afghanistan, is a source of great pride to this nation, to the great State of Texas, and to the Brazos Valley; and WHEREAS, Commanding a small, elite team of soldiers and civilians from the 1st Information Operations Command, Lieutenant Colonel Nettles and his unit have actively supported combat operations in both theaters, saving countless coalition and American lives and facilitating the elections in both Afghanistan and Iraq; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Nettles and his team have successfully completed every mission assigned and safely returned all of his troops to their families; his unwavering courage and dedication have earned him a host of prestigious accolades, including two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, and submission for two Combat Action Badges; and WHEREAS, Called to active duty in May 2003, Lieutenant Colonel Nettles worked with the XVIII Airborne Corps Commander Lieutenant General John Vines and with the Special Forces and Navy Seal operators while serving in Afghanistan; after his return, he volunteered to lead a team into Iraq; and WHEREAS, This brave soldier was deployed to Iraq on July 4, 2004; though he was injured in a rocket attack, Lieutenant Colonel Nettles demonstrated unwavering strength and leadership by returning to his post the same day and encouraging his team to continue the fight; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University and South Texas College of Law, Lieutenant Colonel Nettles is a successful attorney; the consummate citizen soldier, he serves his community in times of peace and answers his country's call in times of war; and WHEREAS, Texans owe a profound debt of gratitude to Lieutenant Colonel Nettles, his team, and all of America's military personnel, for they are called on to bear great, often unimaginable, burdens, and they render service and sacrifice that are truly beyond measure; and WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and this nation, Bentley Nettles embodies the highest ideals of the Texas National Guard and the U.S. Armed Forces, and it is indeed a privilege to join in welcoming him home; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel A. Bentley Nettles for his exemplary commitment to his community, to the State of Texas, and to his nation, and extend to him best wishes for success and happiness in the coming years; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Lieutenant Colonel Nettles as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
