CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The striking beauty and variety of the Texas landscape is aptly showcased in our system of state parks, and these irreplaceable public spaces are among the state's most compelling attractions for tourists and residents alike; and WHEREAS, The year 2005 marks the 70th anniversary of Tyler State Park and offers an apt opportunity to reflect on the park's importance to generations of Texans; and WHEREAS, First developed by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, the park has served for years as an inviting retreat for many, and the ongoing renovation and restoration of the park only continues to enhance its appeal; and WHEREAS, Among the park's most distinctive features are the hand-hewn rock walls and other structures designed to prevent soil erosion, labor-intensive undertakings that the park workers created and completed by hand; and WHEREAS, The countless visitors who enjoy Tyler State Park yearly are indebted both to the laborers who originally created the park and to the contemporary caretakers of the park's legacy, and the park's popularity is eloquent tribute to the value of the worthwhile work of these dedicated individuals; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 70th anniversary of Tyler State Park and extend to all those associated with the park sincere appreciation and gratitude for their efforts to preserve this essential public resource.
