H.C.R. No. 22
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Each November, communities across the country
celebrate National Adoption Awareness Month by organizing events to
raise public awareness about children in foster care and to
celebrate families who have adopted children from the foster-care
system; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, more than 200 communities across the
country finalized the adoptions of more than 3,300 children on
National Adoption Day; this year's event is being held on November
19, 2005, when many more foster children will be placed in
permanent, loving homes; and
WHEREAS, For the past five years, Judge Ellen S. Smith, an
associate judge of the Tarrant County Juvenile Court, has organized
National Adoption Day celebrations in her community; today, the
annual event includes the participation of local law students, who
assist with court proceedings, lawyers, judges, county employees,
and community businesses; and
WHEREAS, Families and representatives from the legal and
child-care communities of Tarrant County have been instrumental in
promoting adoption and finding homes for foster-care children, and
their active contributions to Texas youth benefit all residents of
the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas,
2nd Called Session, hereby commend residents of Tarrant County for
their participation in National Adoption Day and extend to them
sincere best wishes for continued success with this noteworthy
event.
