A JOINT RESOLUTION
proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the creation of a judicial compensation commission. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Article V, Texas Constitution, is amended by adding Section 32 to read as follows: Sec. 32. (a) Notwithstanding any other provisions of this constitution, the Legislature may by law create a judicial compensation commission to make recommendations for judicial salaries that become law if neither the Senate nor the House of Representatives, by majority vote, rejects the recommendations. (b) Subsection (a) of this section applies only to salaries for justices and judges of the Supreme Court, the Court of Criminal Appeals, the Courts of Appeals, and the District Courts. SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 8, 2005. The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to create a judicial compensation commission."
