donating automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to all Northeast
Tarrant County high schools and to Tarrant County College
Northeast; and
WHEREAS, When an individual suffers cardiac arrest, early
defibrillation can be a lifesaver; AEDs are specially designed to

the heart rhythm; because of their effectiveness and ease of use,
the devices have been installed in a number of offices and public
places; and
WHEREAS, In the United States, cardiovascular disease is the
third leading cause of death among children under the age of 15,
resulting in approximately 7,000 childhood fatalities each year;

in addition to the defibrillators, the hospital is providing each
school with AED/CPR certification training for five people and
quarterly online refresher training; and

of a state mandate; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
