H.R. No. 50 





R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month dates back to September 17, 1968, when the United States Congress authorized the president to issue an annual proclamation commemorating the enormous contributions made by Hispanic Americans to the development of our nation throughout its rich history; and WHEREAS, Two decades later, on August 17, 1988, the 100th Congress passed a law designating the 31-day period beginning September 15 and ending October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month; and WHEREAS, While the impact of Hispanic culture has long been manifest in American customs and traditions, Latinos continue to play increasingly critical roles in the U.S. economy, military, and government; their wide-ranging efforts are reflected in the theme that distinguishes this year's annual observance--Hispanic Americans: Strong and Colorful Threads in the American Fabric; and WHEREAS, During National Hispanic Heritage Month, 2005, the United States Army Medical Command officially acknowledges and celebrates the great diversity of the Hispanic community, its outstanding contributions to the building of this nation, and its steadfast commitment to the high ideals that still unite us as a people; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby recognize September 15-October 15, 2005, as National Hispanic Heritage Month and extend sincere best wishes to all those within the United States Army Medical Command who are supporting the celebration of this significant occasion.
