R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Stewards Foundation, a not-for-profit association
of churches providing programs for all affiliated churches,
celebrated its 60th anniversary on March 26, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Founded by William G. McCartney and a group of
Christian businessmen in the Chicago area, Stewards Foundation was
originally organized as a source of loan funding for church
buildings; the group later expanded into the health care arena,
acquiring hospitals in Illinois and Washington and aiding some
15,000 patients annually at its peak; and
WHEREAS, Although no longer directly invested in the business
of hospitals, Stewards Foundation, which has been based in Dallas
since 1998, continues to assist missionaries and affiliated
assembly workers with the costs of health care through the Stewards
Foundation Healthcare Assistance Plan; in addition, the foundation
also supports the Stewards Foundation Loan Program; and
WHEREAS, Stewards Foundation is currently supported by the
leadership of its executive director and secretary Kevin L. Engle
and its dedicated board members, including John W. Brown,
president, Michael A. Campbell, chair, Walter H. Elliott III, Dr.
John D. Englehart, treasurer, D. Bryan Hughes, Gerald V. Keller,
vice president, Glenn L. Lightfoot, and Robert L. Rockhold; and
WHEREAS, The many individuals who have contributed to the
success of Stewards Foundation may be proud of the organization's
exceptional record of service, and it is a pleasure to join them in
celebrating the 60th anniversary of the foundation; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby recognize the 60th
anniversary of Stewards Foundation and congratulate all associated
with this venerable organization; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Stewards Foundation as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
