R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bishop Samuel Edward Iglehart of San Antonio is observing his 68th birthday on August 6, 2005, providing a welcome opportunity to recognize him for his many contributions to his community of faith; and WHEREAS, Born to Dessie and Bishop Thaddeus Iglehart on August 2, 1937, Bishop Iglehart graduated from A. J. Moore High School and furthered his education at Paul Quinn College, Prairie View A&M University, Savannah State College, Texas Southern University, and The International Seminary; he holds master's degrees in business administration and Bible theology and is a licensed professional counselor and nursing home administrator; and WHEREAS, Ordained at the age of 31, Bishop Iglehart has ably served a host of churches throughout his tenure in the ministry; since 1997, he has served as pastor of Childress Memorial Church of God in Christ in San Antonio, and his visionary leadership and exuberant dedication to the congregation have resulted in the spiritual and financial growth of the institution; and WHEREAS, Bishop Iglehart has lent his time and talents to a number of religious organizations; the current jurisdictional prelate of the Texas Southwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, he has served as chair of the Licensed Ministers Board, president of the Jurisdictional Young People Willing Worker Department, district superintendent of the Greater Temple District, secretary of the Inter-Jurisdictional Council of Texas Bishops, and secretary of the Judiciary Committee and member of the Public Relations Committee for the College of Bishops; also benefiting from his involvement have been the Pastoral Care Board of Scott and White Hospital, the United Negro College Fund, and the NAACP, with which he holds a lifetime membership; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Bishop Iglehart has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Glorious Cosey Iglehart, and their six beloved children; and WHEREAS, This respected clergyman is an outstanding leader, and it is most fitting to join in recognizing a most noteworthy event in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Bishop Samuel Edward Iglehart on the occasion of his 68th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Bishop Iglehart as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
