H.R. No. 91 





R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the passing of Ferma C. Stewart on June 12, 2005, at the age of 93, Navarro County has lost a distinguished native son, and we join his family members and many admirers in mourning their loss; and WHEREAS, Born on July 29, 1911, in Pursley, Mr. Stewart moved to Corsicana at the age of five, and it was there that he first exercised his entrepreneurial spirit, selling popcorn on Beaton Street at the age of 12; and WHEREAS, As he grew, so did the size and success of his business ventures, and in 1939 he founded Stewart Motor Company, the General Motors auto dealership he ran for more than four decades; and WHEREAS, He was also a founder of Navarro Savings & Loan, Red Oak Bank, and Red Circle Supply, and served as a director on the boards of Twilight Home, Family Service, Ranch Properties, Inc., and the First National Bank of Corsicana, where he was chairman of the board; and WHEREAS, A member of the U.S. Air Corps during World War II, Mr. Stewart gave generously of his time and talent for the greater good, serving as president of the Corsicana Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Corsicana Planning and Zoning Commission, and in 2003 he was named Navarro County's Older Texan of the Year; and WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Stewart was a faithful member of Westhill Church of Christ who enjoyed helping others, and he leaves behind a legacy to treasure for those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Ferma C. Stewart and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 67 years, Ava Nell Cole Stewart; to his children, Sharon Stewart, Sally Van Gee and her husband, Stephen, Mary Jane Randolph and her husband, Dennis, and Jim Stewart; to his grandchildren and great-grandchild; to his brother, Maco Stewart; to his sister, Winona Stewart; to his numerous other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ferma C.
