R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The loving family and dear friends of Louis Ferrell
Woodward of Girvin deeply mourn his passing on July 21, 2005, at the
age of 82; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Woodward was born in Fort
Stockton on October 15, 1922; he served his country as a member of
the U.S. Army during World War II, sustaining wounds during the
Battle of the Bulge in early 1945; and
WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Woodward
returned home to ranch with his family in Terrell County until the
1950s, when he moved to Crane County to begin ranching on his own;
and
WHEREAS, The devoted husband of the former Eddie Mae Hogg,
Mr. Woodward took great pride in his family, which includes four
beloved sons, seven grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan moved his family to Girvin in
1962; with the help of his sons, he later expanded the family's
ranching operations into Pecos and Culberson Counties; and
WHEREAS, Highly regarded by his neighbors and fellow
ranchers, Mr. Woodward was a director of the Federal Land Bank, a
former president of the Pecos County Farm Bureau, an honorary
lifetime member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association,
and a member of the Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association and
many other agricultural organizations; he was also a valued
congregant of the Church of Christ; and
WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Louis Ferrell
Woodward will long miss his presence, but his generous spirit will
live on in the hearts of the countless people whose lives he
touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Louis Ferrell Woodward and extend sincere sympathy to the members
of his family: to his wife of 55 years, Eddie Mae Woodward; to his
sons and their wives, Ernest Woodward, Lowell and Carol Woodward,
Boyd "Skip" and Debbie Woodward, and Loyd "Snap" Woodward; to his
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to his nephew, Neil
Woodward, and his wife, Janie; to his niece, Loraine Lannon, and her
husband, Don; and to all who mourn the passing of this treasured
man; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Louis
Ferrell Woodward.
