R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Hi-Fairnessee Girls Club of Corpus Christi
commemorates its 74th anniversary in 2005, and this occasion
provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the oldest Hispanic
Catholic girls club in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Organized in 1931, the club honors graduating
seniors with a debutante ball and sponsors activities that promote
leadership, community service, and awareness of the Hispanic
culture and language; in addition to volunteering at numerous
events throughout the city, members attend monthly mass and conduct
fund-raisers; and
WHEREAS, Hi-Fairnessee draws its membership from the public
and parochial high schools in the Corpus Christi area; young ladies
are admitted into the club when they are sophomores or juniors, and
they leave the organization when they graduate; and
WHEREAS, Current officers include president Trisha Alaniz
Chaffin, vice president Sarah Saenz, secretary Larenta Perez,
treasurer Christina Cantu, reporter Susanna Guzman,
parliamentarian Jennifer Trevino, and business manager Amanda
Castanon; and
WHEREAS, Other club members are Martha Avila, Christine
Benavidez, Anahi Breunig, Julia Cavazos, Marie Catherine
DeLaGarza, Megan Enriquez, Catherine Galvan, Tara Gonzales,
Victoria Gutierrez, Nisi Heredia, Lauren Ledesma, Desiree Lopez,
Marissa Lopez, Alizabeth Ortega, Danielle Rangel, Erika Rendon, and
Julia Samaniego; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating positive values and the virtues of
public service, the exceptional young women of the Hi-Fairnessee
Girls Club are role models to their peers and a source of pride to
their families; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor the Hi-Fairnessee
Girls Club of Corpus Christi on the special occasion of the club's
74th anniversary and extend to the members best wishes for
continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
