R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The S.A.V.E. Alief organization presented the Third
Annual Alief Health and Civic Resources Fair at Notre Dame Catholic
Church in Houston on July 30, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Free health screenings for all ages were offered at
this important community event, including diabetes, blood
pressure, and cholesterol screenings, along with mammograms, PSA
tests, and childhood immunizations for prequalified participants;
information on insurance, education, and job opportunities were
also provided, in addition to face painting and games for younger
attendees; and
WHEREAS, Wilcrest Baptist Church, the West Houston Medical
Center, Medical Insights, Community Health Choice, the IBN SINA
Clinic, and the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization
participated in the event; and
WHEREAS, In addition to S.A.V.E. Alief and Notre Dame
Catholic Church, sponsors included Senator Rodney Ellis, Houston
City Council members M. J. Khan and Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, M.D., the
Alief Independent School District, Shell Chemicals, Westhollow
Technology Center, Alma Cunningham Properties, State Farm
Insurance (Susan Ballard), Central Bank, Jim's Tae Kwon Do Academy,
H-E-B, U.S. Representative Al Green, RAM Security, Smith Protective
Services, and the following individuals: Ngozi Adimora-Nweke, Bob
Boehlert, Aline Cabral, Shane Chen, Diane Dang, Tiffany Dao, Karen
Domino, Brian Fanguy, Maureen Fanguy, Ana Garza-Ibarra, Barbie
Gupta, Andrea Hinckson, Pat Kearns, Marie Lee, Karen Loper, Claudia
Lozano, Kim Mathes, Ernest McGowen, Cynthia Mingus, Irene Obazei,
Barbara Perkins, Mike Rippert, Willie Robert, Diana Schoonover,
Elsie Smith, Yenvi Tran, Anne Williams, and Henry Williams; and
WHEREAS, In offering invaluable medical screenings and
information on important health issues, the sponsors, organizers,
and participants of this event not only promoted the well-being of
all those who attended, but provided members of the Alief community
an opportunity for an informative and enjoyable gathering; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby recognize the Third Annual
Alief Health and Civic Resources Fair in 2005 and congratulate all
organizers and participants on a successful event.
