R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Lyondell Corpus Christi Complex is celebrating
its 25th anniversary in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Located on more than 2,000 acres in Northwest Corpus
Christi, this Lyondell plant produces chemicals that are used to
manufacture a wide array of products, ranging from dairy crates and
bread trays to tires, antifreeze, and nylon; the complex is part of
one of the largest independent chemical firms in the world; and
WHEREAS, With approximately 400 employees and contractors,
the facility is a major economic asset to the Corpus Christi area;
in addition to meeting a payroll and providing benefits that total
more than $28 million annually, the plant each year purchases goods
and services worth over $39 million and makes property tax payments
of nearly $8 million; and
WHEREAS, A socially responsible member of the community, the
complex supports many worthy charitable and civic organizations;
among these are the Corpus Christi Literacy Council, Robstown Area
Development Commission, Boys and Girls Club, Coastal Bend Bays and
Estuaries, American Diabetes Association, March of Dimes, Citizens
for Educational Excellence, and the school districts of Robstown,
Tuloso-Midway, and Calallen; and
WHEREAS, In addition to participating actively in the civic
realm, the plant has established a commendable record with regard
to environmental concerns, reducing toxic emissions by 91 percent
between 1995 and 2003; and
WHEREAS, Equally committed to the safety of its workers, the
complex has continued to maintain its VPP STAR certification,
issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, since
1986; in 2005, the Lyondell Corpus Christi Complex was recertified
as a VPP STAR site, OSHA's highest recognition for workplace
safety; and
WHEREAS, The Lyondell Corpus Christi Complex embodies the
highest standards of its industry and plays a vital role in the life
of its community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Lyondell
Corpus Christi Complex on the occasion of its 25th anniversary and
extend to all associated with that facility sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Lyondell Corpus Christi Complex as an expression
of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
