R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Those young people who dedicate themselves to the pursuit of academic excellence are indeed deserving of special praise and recognition; and WHEREAS, The students who make up the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) Class of 2005 have distinguished themselves as scholars of national repute; and WHEREAS, Selected for their outstanding aptitude in math and science, TAMS students participate in a two-year residential program at the University of North Texas, where they complete a rigorous academic curriculum of college-level courses, and in rising to this formidable challenge these gifted young Texans have demonstrated great intelligence and a commitment to expanding their horizons; and WHEREAS, Among its 162 students, the Class of 2005 includes 30 National Merit Scholarship finalists and 55 commended students, 6 National Hispanic Recognition Scholars, and a National Achievement Scholarship finalist; and WHEREAS, The impressive accomplishments of the Class of 2005 point to futures bright with promise, and we wish its members well as they embark on the exciting careers and opportunities for additional learning that await them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor the members of the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science Class of 2005 and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the TAMS graduates as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
