R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jerry Hoke is retiring as library director of
Wharton County Junior College after more than 30 years of service to
the school and the community; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hoke received his bachelor's degree from the
University of Dayton, his master's degree in English from the
University of Indiana, and his master's degree in library science
from the University of Oklahoma; his strong educational background
has provided him with a wide body of knowledge on such diverse
topics as Italian motorcycles, everyday life in 17th-century
London, European shotgun makers, and 14th-century music; and
WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the WCJC library has undergone
numerous changes and upgrades, including the incorporation of new
technologies, which has substantially enhanced research
opportunities and access to information; Mr. Hoke has also been
instrumental in the expansion of the college from a single campus to
an integral system serving the Central Gulf Coast; furthermore, as
a distinguished member of the Wharton community, he has contributed
to the development of the city's arts and cultural resources; and
WHEREAS, Jerry Hoke's dedication to the needs of WCJC
students and Wharton area residents is truly outstanding, and
though he will be missed by library patrons, his intellectual
curiosity and civic commitment will surely continue to inspire
others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Jerry Hoke for his
exceptional tenure with Wharton County Junior College and extend to
him sincere best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Hoke as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
