R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, After 18 years, Reverend Marvis Louis Jackson of Houston is retiring as moderator of the South Texas District Association on August 11, 2005, concluding an impressive tenure characterized by dedication and commitment to excellence; and WHEREAS, Reverend M. L. Jackson has been affiliated with the South Texas District Association for more than 50 years and has served as pastor of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church for the past 48 years; and WHEREAS, His contributions to the residents of Greater Houston are myriad, as are his personal and professional achievements; he has been a member of the National Baptist Publishing Board, served as vice president of the Baptist Ministers' Association of Houston and Vicinity, and chaired the District Task Force's Churches and Public Affairs initiative; and WHEREAS, A World War II veteran, Reverend Jackson is a well-known lecturer and is active in numerous community organizations; notably, he served on the Texas Ethics Commission, and he has also directed the Houston Area State Ushers and Nurses; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Jackson has received the love and support of his wife, Clara Belle Bennett Jackson, and he receives additional inspiration from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; an outstanding leader, Reverend M. L. Jackson will surely continue to have a positive influence on the lives of those who know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor the Reverend M. L. Jackson on the occasion of his retirement as moderator of the South Texas District Association and commend him for his service with this esteemed organization; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Reverend Jackson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
