R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Nelda Ann Overstreet of Kountze, who passed away on July 27, 2005, at the age of 59; and WHEREAS, Born on October 8, 1945, to Sam and Juanita Owings in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the former Nelda Ann Owings graduated as the valedictorian of Kountze High School in 1963; she became an educator and taught math for 32 years in Channelview, Silsbee, and the Warren Independent School District before her retirement; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Overstreet was a tireless advocate for her community who was devoted to promoting Hardin County and preserving its rich heritage; she was highly instrumental in the restoration of the Kirby-Hill House, which she served as a board member and curator, and she helped to secure its status on the National Register of Historic Places and founded its educational foundation; moreover, she established the Old Hardin Wildflowers Association, founded and served as president of the Hardin County Tourist Bureau, and was a former director of the Holland Cemetery Association and the Southeast Texas Arts Council; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Overstreet also gave generously of her time and talents to represent Hardin County on the Jefferson County Regional Tourism Center, to serve as a member of the Ghost Road County Park Committee, as first mate to the captain of Timber Ridge Tours, and as a contributing writer to the Hardin County News; and WHEREAS, This notable Texan leaves behind a legacy of achievement that will long be felt in the community she was proud to call home and a host of loved ones who will cherish her memory; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Nelda Ann Overstreet and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband and best friend, James "Bobo" Overstreet; to her daughters, Leanne Imer and her husband, Bradley, and Amanda Overstreet; to her sisters, Nancy Gandy, Carol McDonald, and Terry McNeely; to her grandchildren, Michael, Anthony, Madison, and Elsie Belle; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nelda Ann Overstreet.
